The A-series for Pixel phones is excellent because it allows Google to bring the best of its software to a more affordable price segment. For some time, Google has been doing a great job at this, but things are apparently changing because the latest leak surrounding the Pixel 8a suggests that this could be the most expensive A-series device from Google.
The Pixel 8a is going to be more expensive in a market where better phones are available for cheap
Based on information from WinFuture, it appears that the Pixel 8a will be more expensive, at least in the European region. The leak also talks about new color options, as well as storage variants that Google might be releasing. The information obtained by retailers suggested that the Pixel 8a will start at €570 for the base model with 128 gigs of storage. Then, you will have to spend €630 if you want the 256 gigs storage variant. For the sake of comparison, the Pixel 7a launched at €499.
The report does mention that these are just preliminary figures and can change when the phones are actually available in the market, but considering how Google offers standardized pricing for all its devices and if it is true, then the Pixel 8a is going to be priced the same way in the U.S. and other regions. Now, a price increase normally wouldn't be an issue, but this increased price would put the phone right in the same range as other, better phones in the market. Like the OnePlus 12R and a number of other devices that are at the same price or even less but still deliver better performance.
Last but not least, the information obtained suggested that the Pixel 8a will be available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Bay, and Mint. However, not all colors will be available for both 128 and 256GB storage options, so that is one thing that you will have to keep in mind. As far as the specs are concerned, the Pixel 8a is said to have an underclocked Tensor G3 chipset, as well as eight gigs of RAM. The design looks rounder when compared to the previous devices, but we don't know much about the specs at this point.
I will honestly be surprised if this pricing is true because it would easily make the phone the most expensive A-series device that Google has released, and it might not be of good value to many people going forward. We will keep a close eye on that and will keep you posted should something change.
