Oxenfree II: Lost Signals might be finally close to release, according to the PlayStation Game Size database, which mines its information from the PlayStation Store database.
As tweeted a few hours ago, they found a July 12th launch date attached to the game. It would certainly be a nice time to come out since July is traditionally the less busy month of the gaming calendar in terms of new releases.
Of course, it's not the first time we heard about an Oxenfree II: Lost Signals release date. The sequel to the acclaimed supernatural horror/mystery adventure indie game was originally scheduled to debut on PC and Nintendo Switch at some point in 2021.
The game was then moved to 2022 while additional platforms (PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4) were confirmed. Clearly, 2022 didn't pan out, either.
Ule Lopez checked out a remote hands-off demo a while ago and reported interesting findings.
The demo showcased Riley and her partner Jacob finding the first time tear and using the radio to open it, much like how Alex did in the first Oxenfree game. Once the tear is open, Riley and Jacob get transported back to 1899 when the mine they were in was still operational. Jacob tries not to be freaked out by this while Riley (by the choices of the devs) humors his attempts at calming himself down.
I was really happy to see the quirky dialogue between the characters coming back. The real appeal of Oxenfree was the many dialogue choices that players can use to interact with the world and their surroundings. Many people in the press room were wondering if the infamous "Stay silent all the time" achievement would come back with the developers saying that it might make a return.
It's good to see this new character. The guy likes talking with Riley and playing some dumb games while they are on their way to solve the issues befalling Edward's Island and Camena. Night School Studio made it abundantly clear that while we might see some returning characters from the previous game, there'll be a major emphasis on the newer ones.
Oxenfree II: Lost Signals seems to be a promising endeavor so far. The dialogue is full of personality once again and the choices the player makes are just as important as they were in the first game. The game is comfortably getting us reacquainted with the newer cast while giving us some the appropriate dialogue choices to keep that "Home" feeling.
As a reminder, developer Night School Studio (which also released the game Afterparty in between the two Oxenfree titles) was acquired by Netflix in September 2021 as part of its push into the gaming market.
