Niantic Labs Shares Mind-Boggling Pokemon GO Milestones
Ever since Pokemon GO was released back in July, the game has managed to achieve a lot of milestones. What exactly are they? Niantic Labs has outlined them in a wonderful post and a small 30-second video.
Pokemon GO Trainers Have Walked 8.7 Billion Kilometers, Caught 88 Billion Pokemon
You know that we are fans of a little walk every now and then. That’s why we were excited back in September to announce that Pokémon GO Trainers had walked more than 4.6 billion kilometers since we launched. Trainers have since racked up some impressive stats.
We are pleased to share that—as of December 7—the Pokémon GO community has collectively walked more than 8.7 billion kilometers. That’s more than 200,000 trips around Earth! Fun fact: A commercial jetliner would take more than 1,000 years to cover the same distance. While covering this distance, Trainers also caught more than 88 billion Pokémon along the way. That’s roughly 533 million Pokémon a day!
Get out and go this holiday season, and let’s add some more kilometers to that total! Thank you for your continued support!
Despite the game seeing a downward spiral, the creators behind the title are not resting in the background at all. It was recently announced that new Pokemon are coming to the game, and for a limited time, players will be able to catch a limited edition Pikachu as well. But that’s not all, Niantic Labs even confirmed that it’s working on an Apple Watch version of the game, allowing Trainers to extend their gameplay by a huge margin.
It’s clear Niantic Labs is set to achieve even more milestones in the months to come. But it remains to be seen whether or not the game will rise back to the same level as it did when it was released back in July. Only time will be able to tell such a thing.
