A teardown of the M4 iPad Pro went live a few hours before, showing various internal changes to Apple’s flagship tablet. Fortunately, where you may have missed out on some crucial details, we spotted them in the latest disassembly video, with the 13-inch version having some attributes that will make repairs significantly easier. However, the entire process is not without its headaches, as you will soon find out.
Two batteries of the M4 iPad Pro can be removed using ‘pull tabs’ and that too, without disassembling the entire tablet
The latest teardown of the M4 iPad Pro was posted by iFixit, with the clip below showing that just by heating up one side of the slate, the adhesive holding the Tandem OLED panel can be easily removed from the rest of the device. Unfortunately, in true Apple fashion, once the display is separated, the innards are littered with connectors and screws, with several of them having to be removed for the host to gain access to the battery.
Fortunately, one of the biggest problems of previous-generation Apple products addressed this time is that authorized or third-party repair personnel do not have to remove every component of the M4 iPad Pro to get access to the battery. Furthermore, removing the two cells is a ‘tool-less’ approach and only requires you to grip the pull tabs. This design change was spotted in iFixit’s M3 MacBook Air teardown, so it is refreshing to see the company making this a standard.
Also, remember when Apple executives stated that the M4 iPad Pro features a protective cowling in the center to give the new slates additional rigidity? Well, it turns out that the company added not one but two central spines for increased durability. However, in a future model, Apple might want to add protection where the USB-C charging port is present. We say this because an early bend test revealed that the bigger iPad Pro snaps from that exact position.
Also, where some aspects of the M4 iPad Pro are easier to remove, others are not. For instance, the logic board is still glued in place, and just like on previous occasions, Apple has added a boatload of connectors and screws that can make the disassembly job a complete nightmare. The iFixit host also showcased an Apple Pencil Pro teardown, so if you want to check that out, watch the video above and let us know what you think in the comments.
