Apple has been reported on innumerable occasions to bring OLED technology to the M3 iPad Pro models for the first time later this year. Ross Young, CEO of DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants), has provided routine updates about the upcoming tablet’s displays and believes that Apple will introduce various technologies to this family for the first time for a product in this class. As such, the analyst had several praises about the OLED panels, so let us discuss those in more detail.

M3 iPad Pro models to be the first to feature an OLED with tandem stack technology, along with other advantages

Both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models are said to feature an LTPO backplane, which is similar to the technology used on Apple’s latest iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Ross Young states that the upcoming devices will also be the first in their category to sport a tandem stack. A tandem stack layer helps to improve the durability of the iPad Pro’s OLED panel by four times while increasing the total brightness by twice the maximum level.

Apple and Samsung were earlier said to have been at an impasse trying to form a deal where the Korean manufacturer would provide these high-quality displays. Young has commented on his post that these tablets would house the ‘brightest and longest life OLEDs,’ and that is thanks to using tandem stack technology.

Also, transitioning from mini-LED to OLED means that Apple can make these displays thinner, so the M3 iPad Pro could flaunt a slimmer chassis. However, we cannot comment on how that will negatively affect its aluminum chassis. Unfortunately, as much as Apple would likely want to retain the price of its upcoming M3 iPad Pro models, adopting advanced OLEDs would likely force the Cupertino giant to charge a hefty premium from its loyal customers.

The new lineup is rumored to start from $1,500, and that is just for the 11-inch version. As you add more storage to the overall configuration while throwing in cellular connectivity just for fun, these tablets could exceed $2,000 a unit, potentially discouraging buyers. Hopefully, the launch of the M3 iPad Pro models would result in a sizable price drop for the older M2 versions, as those pack quite a punch.

Apple will likely have a ton of marketing material surrounding the OLED panels of the new iPad Pro models, and we will provide all the details after they officially launch, so stay tuned for more updates.
