With WWDC only a couple of hours away, the hype regarding what the event might announce seems to be heightened. Now, new leaks right before the event suggest a security feature might also come to mobile applications with iOS 18. Additionally, we are already expecting changes for the home screen and the control center to be incorporated in the upgrades at the keynote, but a follow-up capability of dark tint for the apps might also come along.
You can now lock individual apps with Face ID as an added security feature coming to iOS 18
iOS 18 is set on empowering users by making the experience more personalized with the freedom to choose from greater options than the one given by developers. According to MacRumors, varied sources have confirmed another added security feature to lock apps separately with the help of your Face ID.
The built-in apps on the iPhone, such as Messages, Notes, and even Safari, can be locked for an added layer of security that requires biometric verification to log in. However, we are unsure whether this feature would be available for third-party apps. Previously, Apple allowed certain aspects of apps to be locked, but with the new upgrade, apps can be locked completely even when the device is unlocked. Although users have found workarounds on the phone, such as Shortcuts to lock apps, this would no longer be needed with the iOS 18 update.
This is not the only last-minute feature speculated to come at the WWDC, Apple also plans to announce Dark Mode for app icons on the home screen. For instance, by making the apps for social media in a specific color, users can customize the app experience and make the organization of the icons more streamlined.
When the Dark mode is enabled, a black tint will be automatically applied to the app icons on the home screen. For now, this capability will only be available for Apple apps, but it might be extended to third-party apps later on by giving API to developers.
It was high time Apple provided app protection for a more comfortable user engagement experience, especially given how Android had provided the facility to lock individual apps for a while. The Developer Program members can install the iOS beta for testing right after the WWDC keynote, whereas the general public might get the beta release of iOS 18 in July.
