Apple will reportedly introduce four iPhone 15 models later this year, but one tipster states that if buyers intend to upgrade, they should stay away from the base version and the iPhone 15 Pro.
Tipster calls the base iPhone 15 a ‘derivative’ update and also criticizes the iPhone 15 Pro for lacking anything noteworthy
Coming to the regular iPhone 15, which is said to feature a 6.1-inch OLED panel and last year’s A16 Bionic, @URedditor has informed his Twitter audience not to upgrade to this model as it is just a derivative update. He also states that, in a nutshell, this version is just another iPhone 14 that happens to have replaced the Lightning port with a USB-C one. For those that do not know, he is the same person who provided an early look at the base model of the iPhone 15 feature that new charging port.
Also, while we are on the subject of recommending customers on which iPhone to upgrade, the tipster forgets to mention that most of the upgrades from last year’s ‘Pro’ models will find their way to the iPhone 15, such as the Dynamic Island and 48MP main camera. Sure, it will miss out on the high refresh rate known as ProMotion technology and another sensor at the back, but we would hardly term those lack of features as reasons to forego the upgrade completely.
If you plan on getting a new iPhone - I’d suggest avoiding the base model 15, it’s immensely derivative. Effectively an iPhone 14 with a USB-C port.
The iPhone 15 Pro feels like it relies too much on gimmicks like the titanium alloy, rather than offering anything of note.

Coming to the iPhone 15 Pro, the same tipster mentions that it will rely on ‘gimmicks’ such as the titanium alloy chassis. However, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will also reportedly get the same chassis, with two major differences being that it will be the only model to feature a periscope zoom lens and will sport a bigger display, hence providing more screen real estate and a larger battery to users.
The 'Pro' family is reportedly arriving with more exclusive features, giving much-needed encouragement to buyers to pick it up. However, with the removal of the solid-state buttons, coupled with the fact that Apple is rumored to stick with the same 48MP main sensor as last year, the number of ‘exclusive’ features is slowly dwindling. Regardless, we will hear about the entire features set towards the end of the year, so we will update our readers on which iPhone to pick up.
