While Saros doesn't waste much time teaching the basics of the game, including the Dash maneuver used to avoid enemy attacks, the game often glosses over other mechanics that can make exploring Carcosa smoother and more fun. This is the case of the Traversal Boost ability, which can be a big help if you feel like Arjun is moving too slowly between combat arenas.
How to Sprint (Traversal Boost)

- Dash once by pressing L1.
- Hold L1 down immediately after the dash.
- After a brief delay, Arjun will enter a high-speed sprint, whose momentum can be used to increase Arjun's jump distance.
While Traversal Boost would have worked wonders in a game where repositioning is key to surviving its intense combat encounters, it cannot be used when enemies are present. If you hold L1 after a dash, Traversal Boost will simply not activate.
However, Traversal Boost, or its lack thereof, also has a unique combat application that can be as much help as higher Growth Attributes.
The Hidden Traversal Boost Radar Mechanic

The Traversal Boost secondary use that the game doesn't mention is that the ability acts as an early warning system for enemies.
Because you cannot sprint while enemies are nearby:
- If Arjun doesn't speed up while you are holding L1, there is at least an enemy in the vicinity.
- If Arjun drops out of a sprint, you have just entered a combat arena with enemies nearby.
Using this fail-safe is often faster than checking your surroundings or minimap or waiting to hear an audio cue, allowing you to prepare your Shield before the first projectile even fires. With the intricate environmental design that often hides enemies, using Traversal Boost this way will greatly enhance your gameplay, and help avoid surprise attacks that could cause Corruption during the Eclipse.
