Track Offline Apple Devices Using Find My App Using These Easy Steps
One of the major drawbacks that we had to experience was the inability to track offline Apple devices. Now, with iOS 13 and macOS Catalina, Apple has embedded changes that will make things easier for you. Here's how Apple describes the offline location tracking in Find My app.
Locate a missing device even if it’s not connected to Wi‑Fi or cellular using crowd‑sourced location. When you mark your device as missing and another Apple user’s device is nearby, it can detect your device’s Bluetooth signal and report its location to you. It’s completely anonymous and encrypted end‑to‑end, so everyone’s privacy is protected.
However, in order to unlock the location of the lost device, you should own another device that will send a dedicated key to decrypt the location of the device which is offline. Since each device emits a varying key, the other nearby devices pick it up. With a mesh created, Apple can track the location of the lost offline device which will be fully encrypted.
Here's what you have to enable it.
1. The first thing that you have to do is open the Find My app on your Apple device.
2. Now, tap the Devices tab situated at the bottom.
3. Search for the device on the list map that appears.
4. You can now tap it to reveal options like Play a Sound, Mark it as Lost and even Erase it.
Find My app that tracks offline apple devices is nothing short of amazing. It's a handy tool and the company implemented it in such a way user's privacy is not compromised. Have you used Find My app to locate your offline Apple devices? Let us know in the comments.
