The recently released Gothic 1 Remake from developer Alkimia Interactive and publisher THQ Nordic has officially reached 500,000 copies sold in just its first week on digital store shelves, the studio announced. It's a significant milestone not just because of its scale, but because it's done so during one of the nosiest months in the video game industry, Summer Game Fest 2026.

This remake has been a long time coming, and the original Gothic was such an influential release when it first arrived all the way back in 2001, which gives it a leg up on an RPG like it that was just a brand-new franchise. But that doesn't make it any less significant that it has been able to find an audience right now, at a time when the biggest games in the industry are the ones that haven't even arrived yet.

There are undoubtedly plenty of players whose focus is more on games like God of War Laufey, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, and Resident Evil: Veronica, the top-three most engaged with and discussed games from this past week's bonanza of news.

THQ Nordic and Alkimia Interactive even note the engagement the game has gotten beyond checkout, with a peak of nearly 78K concurrent players on Steam the weekend of its launch, and a 'Very Positive' user reviews rating.

"Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic are thrilled by this initial success and extend a heartfelt thank you to all players who have entered the Colony so far," the game's Steam page reads. "Especially to all of the long-time dedicated fans who have supported the Gothic franchise over the past 25 years. This milestone would not have been possible without such a passionate community."

The statement adds that Alkimia will "continue to support and improve the Gothic 1 Remake in the weeks and months ahead."
