Microsoft released Windows 10 PC Insider Preview build 14986 to the Fast ring earlier this week. The latest release brings a number of new feature updates, along with improvements to Cortana and Edge, among others. But, it also comes with its fair share of issues, including the now-routine installation problems. Planning to test the new release over the weekend? Here's how to easily fix Windows 10 PC Preview build 14986 downloading and installation problems.

Fix Windows 10 14986 installation issues

Several users reported facing troubles downloading the build, with the progress bar stuck at 0%. Users then received the error code 80240031. If you too have been having trouble downloading and installing Windows 10 Preview 14986, Microsoft has now provided an official workaround. Unlike previous fixes to these installations issues, the latest solution is pretty straightforward.

Microsoft says that users who are facing the Windows 10 Insider installation issues on build 14986 should simply run a troubleshooter. The tool is now available for download on the company's website.

"This tool performs a number of actions which will get you back to a clean update state," the company explained in Microsoft Community discussions. "You will need an active internet connection to download this tool and to re-download build 14986 as needed. Once the tool has completed, return to the Settings panel and re-scan for updates. 14986 should download as expected."

Microsoft also warned Windows 10 Insiders that if you have edited your registry and set two regkeys to zero to resolve these installation issues (earlier recommended workaround), then this is only a temporary fix. The company recommends you to restore the original values since "this will impact your ability to receive future updates."
