Two Final Fantasy XVI story expansions were announced at this year's The Game Awards, and the first one of them is already available for purchase.

The two story expansions, named Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, expand the latest main entry in the series by Square Enix with new battles, weapons, accessories, and more. The Echoes of the Fallen expansion takes place right before the final battle when Clive is informed of black crystals circulating on the market. His investigation will bring him to confront a suspicious group of traders and explore a forgotten Fallen tower called the Sagespire.

The second Final Fantasy XVI expansion, The Rising Tide, which will release sometime during Spring 2024, will see Clive confront the legendary Eikon, Leviathan. Not much else is known about this expansion, but it seems like Clive will be able to use the powers of the Eikon of Water, as briefly seen in the announcement trailer.

Purchasing the Final Fantasy XVI Echoes of the Fallen expansion by itself or with the Expansion Pass will also net players some additional bonuses, such as Cloud Strife's signature weapon, the Buster Sword, and a chiptune arrangement of the Away song.

Final Fantasy XVI is now available on PlayStation 5. It will release on PC on a yet-to-be-confirmed release date. More on the game can be found in our review.
