Although Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 has yet to be formally announced, there's a very solid chance the conclusion of the remake trilogy will not release too far in the future. Director Naoki Hamaguchi recently confirmed to Nintendo Life that the team wants to capitalize on the momentum of the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S ports of the first two entries in the series.
"With large-scale titles like this one, it’s common for a long gap to exist between the first and second instalments. However, because they were ports, we decided we could deliver them without leaving much of a gap," Hamaguchi-san said when asked about the very short gap between the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S. "We want to capitalize on this cadence and moment to tie the experiences together without any gaps, from Remake to Rebirth to finally the third instalment that lies beyond them," he concluded, suggesting that part 3 is not too far off in the future.
While Hamaguchi-san did not say much else about Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, what he did say suggests that the game is in a fully playable state and likely in a polishing phase. "We’re very excited about how the game is currently progressing. I have already completed over 40 full playthroughs! I can’t wait for as many people as possible to experience the game for themselves, and myself and the team are working hard to ensure we can create an unforgettable gameplay experience.".
With Final Fantasy VII’s 30th anniversary coming on January 31, 2027, and the first two entries in the remake trilogy having been released early in their respective launch years (April for Remake, late February for Rebirth), it is reasonable to expect Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 to follow suit. Hopefully, the game and its release date will finally be announced during the upcoming "not-E3" season with a glimpse of how the Highwind airship gameplay will redefine the series' scale.
