The convoluted web related to the infamous sex trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein, keeps growing, with Elon Musk now in danger of becoming entangled in this sordid mess.

As per the news that is just trickling in, the US Virgin Islands (USVI) has been trying to issue a subpoena to Elon Musk since April in connection with the ongoing case against JP Morgan for knowingly benefitting from Epstein’s sex-trafficking gig.

A USVI court filing reads:

“The Government contacted Mr. Musk’s counsel via email to ask if he would be authorized to accept service on Mr. Musk’s behalf in this matter but did not receive a response confirming or denying his authority.”

The USVI also hired an investigative firm to try to locate Elon Musk’s current address so as to serve the subpoena in question.

On Monday, the USVI petitioned Judge Jed Rakoff to allow the island’s government to serve Elon Musk the pertinent subpoena via the “alternate service,” which includes media advertisements to alert the target as to the legal demand for documents.

The government of the US Virgin Islands believes that Jeffrey Epstein “may have referred or attempted to refer” Musk as a client to JPMorgan. Consequently, the prosecutors are seeking additional information from the Tesla CEO to gain some much-needed clarity as to his purported links with JP Morgan and Jeffrey Epstein.

Bear in mind that Elon Musk was photographed with Jeffrey Epstein and his long-term confidante, Ghislaine Maxwell, back in 2014. The Tesla CEO has continued to maintain that the altercation was simply a result of being “photobombed” by Maxwell. However, the New York Times has since then reported that Musk had held quite a long conversation with Maxwell at the 2014 Vanity Fair event, with the duo discussing everything from aliens to humans living in a simulation. Strikingly, as per the NYT, Maxwell had even sought advice from Musk on how to delete oneself from the internet.

Of course, this news could not have come at a worse time for Elon Musk, who is gearing up for Tesla’s annual shareholders’ meeting that is due to be held tomorrow. Moreover, earlier today, the Second US Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan turned down Musk’s appeal to terminate the requirement of a designated “Twitter sitter” who is tasked with pre-approving Musk’s Tesla-related tweets, as mandated under a settlement with the SEC in 2018.

Did this subpoena have anything to do with Elon Musk's decision to step down as Twitter's CEO and the rumors of a similar change at Tesla? We are likely to know a lot more regarding this angle in the hours and days ahead.
