Official DOOM Eternal Mod Support Could be Inbound as SteamDB Entries Were Added

DOOM Eternal Mod Support

Official DOOM Eternal mod support might very well be inbound as users have spotted new additions to entries on SteamDB.

Back in 2018, id Software mentioned official mod support for the shooter, but to date, mods aren't officially supported. This, however, might very well change as recent SteamDB changes now directly mention a "DoomModPortal.exe" executable. This could suggest that a mod portal will soon be added to DOOM Eternal. These changes were made some hours ago, and before this change, there wasn't a reference to this mod portal. We've included a screenshot of this new reference below:

As said, back in 2018, the development team already talked about possible future mod support. "So "I can’t say that it’s right on the horizon or right around the corner, but it’s important to me", Director Marty Stratto said in an interview back then. "It’s important to Robert Duffy, our CTO. We have definitely swung the pendulum back pretty far towards being able to that."

Over the years, we've seen plenty of great unofficial DOOM Eternal mods from the community, including a mod that improved particle effects as well as a mod that removed the game's low-health red screen tint.

If Bethesda and id Software would indeed introduce official mod support for the game through a future update - what kind of mods would you like to see? Remakes of the original DOOM games within the DOOM Eternal engine perhaps? Hit the comments below.

Released in 2020 for PC and consoles, DOOM Eternal has been well-received. Here's what we wrote about the game in our launch review:

Doom Eternal is a brilliant game, one that is a worthy successor to the previous release. While the game does stumble here and there, trying to be something that it really shouldn't be, the outstanding gameplay more than makes up for any issues. Going by the campaign alone, Doom Eternal is well worth your time and money, particularly so if you liked Doom. I'm not sold on the multiplayer, as it feels just a bit too threadbare.
