CalDigit TS3 & TS3 Lite Thunderbolt 3 Docks For MacBook Pro Announced

CalDigit has announced multiple Thunderbolt 3 docks for the 2016 MacBook Pro, called the TS3 and TS3 Lite. We have all the details right here.

CalDigit is Offering Two New Thunderbolt 3 Docks - One for Professionals, One for Simply Expanding I/O

Until we start seeing proper USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 accessories for our notebooks and desktops, we will have to make do with docks and adapters. Yesterday we covered a new Thunderbolt 3 dock from Elgato, and today, things are being taken further with new docks from CalDigit.

There are two docks in total that have been announced by CalDigit - one is the TS3 and the other is the TS3 Lite. As you can already tell from the name, the 'Lite' model offers minimum connectivity options and serves the purpose of a simple hub rather than a full-blown I/O monster.

The TS3 Lite, once connected to your MacBook Pro, will offer a USB 3.1 Type-A port at the back, as well as Gigabit Ethernet, 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports and a DisplayPort. You also get audio I/O ports. On the front of the accessory there are two more ports - one is a USB 3.1 Type-A port while the other one is a USB-C port which can be used for transferring data or charging up your MacBook Pro. The TS3 Lite is ideal for hooking it up with a display such as the LG UltraFine 5K.

The TS3 on the other hand, is a professional dock for people who require no compromises at all. Once plugged in, you get a wide array of ports such as a DisplayPort, 2 USB 3.1 Type-A ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports, and two eSATA ports. At the front you get a single USB 3.1 Type-A port and input / output audio jacks. The dock even offers up to 85W of charging power for the MacBook Pro, which is satisfyingly enough for any user out there.

On the pricing front, CalDigit is offering a great pre-order deal. If you pre-order the TS3 right now, it'll set you back $199. The TS3 Lite on the other hand will cost you $169. Once the pre-order period is up, you can pick up the TS3 and TS3 Lite for $249 and $199, respectively.

You can pre-order the docks directly from CalDigit's website. Point your browser to this link: and kick things off from there if you are interested. The products will start shipping in early 2017.

We will highly recommend waiting till the end of CES 2017 before going ahead with pre-ordering anything at all. There are a lot of announcements to be made, it's best to wait for the noise to settle before you part with your cash.
