Bloodborne’s Shadows Of Yarnham Were Originally Much More Fearsome, New Cut Content Video Reveals

Among the most iconic enemies in FromSoftware's Bloodborne were the Shadows of Yarnham, powerful black-clad warriors who are first encountered as bosses before becoming regular enemies in the final stretch of the game. Incredibly enough, these enemies were even more fearsome in the game's pre-release version, as detailed by a new video shared online.

The new video put together by well-known dataminer Lance McDonald, the man behind the unofficial 60 FPS patch for the game, goes over the history of the Shadows of Yarnham, revealing their different placement in the game's alpha version and abilities, such as the ability to turn invisible. One of the Shadows was also meant to be able to switch between swords and guns, but the idea was never implemented properly.

Even their first appearance in Bloodborne, as bosses at the end of the Forbidden Woods area, was considerably different and way more dramatic. They were much more dangerous, as one of them was capable of inflicting frenzy, and all three could stretch their limbs, despite the much bigger arena that made controlling space slightly easier. While the changes FromSoftware made make quite a bit of sense, it is still fascinating to see how gameplay mechanics and features have evolved during development.

What doesn't seem to be developing any further is the series' future. While fans of the game are hungering for more, with some going as far as recreating the game in Unreal Engine 5, it seems like there isn't much interest in bringing Bloodborne to PC or PlayStation 5. Rumors of ports, remakes, and even sequels amounted to nothing so far, although a remaster or port of the game could apparently be done at any time without From Software's support, as Sony Japan Studio has a working PC building at some point, according to Lance McDonald.

Bloodborne is now available on PlayStation 4 worldwide. Owners of a jailbroken PlayStation 4 Pro can enjoy the game in 60 FPS thanks to the unofficial patch that is now available for download.
