Apple Vision Pro possibly launching in Japan

The Apple Vision Pro shipping estimates dropped to 400,000 to 450,000 units for 2024, as the headset’s exclusive launch in the U.S. prevented a sales spike. Apple would likely want nothing more than to scale those shipments, and the only way to do that would be to introduce a presence in overseas markets. A solid plan to branch out to other regions could already be formed, with a local online seller mentioning the head-mounted wearable accessories, hinting at a possible future unveiling.

So far, Apple Vision Pro is slated to arrive in three countries other than the U.S.

With the Apple Vision Pro initially estimated to ship up to 800,000 units this year, the drastic drop in these predictions suggests that demand for the ludicrously-priced mixed-reality headset is dwindling fast. To end this slump, Apple could expand the launch to Japan, with Mac Otakara showing an image below that was translated by AppleInsider, mentioning the terms ‘Apple Vision Pro accessories.’ This information was spotted on a local online reseller called Line Shopping, allegedly running a promotion that excludes headset accessories.

The promotion offers various points if customers make purchases, with the campaign starting on April 30 and ending on May 6. In addition to Japan, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the AR headset will launch in China later this year. Furthermore, the company will reportedly kick off training sessions for its retail teams in France, similar to what it did with U.S. employees prior to the Apple Vision Pro launch. After all, if customers are expected to splurge $3,499 on a product, they should at least be allowed to try it before expending a massive sum.

We still believe that if the Apple Vision Pro launches in various markets outside of the U.S., the biggest barrier for customers would be the high price tag. Apple is reportedly working on a successor, but it is not slated to arrive before the end of 2026. However, as of right now, the technology giant is yet to figure out how to bring down the price of the future model, so there are a significant number of challenges to overcome before a worthy impact can be made in this business segment.
