You No Longer Need to Wait Until Late January – Apple Makes $29 Battery Replacement Effective Immediately

iPhone battery replacement

Apple has had one rough year but the company is scrambling this week to end it somewhat responsibly. After a controversial week following the company's public acknowledgment that it indeed did slow down older iPhones, the Cupertino tech giant had offered a cheaper battery replacement program. The company had said that this new program that asks $29 instead of $79 for battery replacements will start in late January. Apparently, the $29 iPhone battery replacement pricing is effective "right away."

$29 iPhone battery replacement is available starting today

The promised $29 out-of-warranty battery replacements that Apple promised earlier this week are now available for users of iPhone 6 or later. The decision to start this program in January was probably to make sure the company had enough supplies expecting an onslaught of consumers opting for battery replacements to experience full performance on their older iPhones.

While you can now go for the $29 iPhone battery replacement right away, the supplies could be limited. "We expected to need more time to be ready, but we are happy to offer our customers the lower pricing right away," Apple said in a statement to media.

"Initial supplies of some replacement batteries may be limited."

The company has also now updated its apology page, which no longer mentions "late January:"

Apple is reducing the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by $50 - from $79 to $29 - for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced, available worldwide through December 2018.

If you have an iPhone 6 or a later device and you believe you need to get the battery replaced, check out with your local Apple Store today; you might be able to avoid the expected January rush.
