AMD Shows Ryzen 7 1700 Running 3400MHz DDR4 Memory On Asus Crosshair VI Hero Motherboard
AMD has just posted a picture on twitter of a Ryzen 7 1700 system running 16GB of G.Skill 3400MHz DDR4 memory. There's been many rumors and a lot of talk about Ryzen's support for high-speed DDR4 memory or lack thereof. This little showcase by AMD should put those worries to rest.
AMD Shows Ryzen Running 3400MHz DDR4 Memory On Asus Crosshair VI Hero Motherboard
AMD used two 8GB 3400MHz G.Skill DDR4 RAM modules with 18-17-17-37-1T timings for this demonstration. What's perhaps a pleasantly surprising about this is that AMD used its entry level Ryzen 7 processor, the 1700, for the showcase rather than the higher end 1700X or 1800X models. This is AMD's way of saying that even its slowest chip will have no problem running such high speed memory. An Asus Crosshair VI Hero motherboard was used for this demonstration.
Ryzen Supports DDR4 RAM With Up To 3600MHz Speeds
Just a little bit over a week ago we saw Biostar publish the DDR4 memory comaptibility list for one of its AM4 motherboards. Which included support for 3600MHz DDR4 memory modules. It’s worth noting that while BIOSTAR isn’t often thought of as a player in the high-end motherboard space, the company has been pushing hard in recent years to compete in the higher end of the market.
Generally speaking, motherboard makers have consistently competed with each other to claim CPU and memory overclocking records. So it wouldn’t be surprising to see other board makers come out with support for even faster DDR4 memory right out of the gate with their upcoming AM4 Ryzen motherboards.
