Leading the pack is the Core i9 7920X, a 12 core 24 thread CPU based on Intel’s Skylake microarchitecture. The chip features 16.5MB of L3 cache and 12MB of L2 cache. According to the product specifications on the retailer’s page; the i9 7920X is rated at 165W, runs at a base clock of 2.9GHz and is yours for $1199. The Turbo clock speed of the 7920X is yet to be revealed.

Moving on to Intel’s 10 core , 20 thread part, the Core i9 7900X. This chip is rated at 140W and features 1MB of L2 cache per core for a total of 10MB  of L2 cache and 1.375MB of L3 cache per core for total of 13.75MB of L3. This CPU features a slightly higher base clock speed of 3.3GHz and an impressive Turbo clock speed of 4.5GHz. This 10 core i9 is yours for a cool $999, which represents a sizable $500 discount compared to its Broadwell-E predecessor.

Next up we have the Core i7 7820K, this is an 8 core, 16 thread processor rated at a slightly lower TDP of 140W. It has 8MB of L2 cache and 11MB of L3 cache. This processor features an even higher base clock of 3.6GHz but a more conservative but still impressive Turbo of 4.3GHz. The 7820K has an MSRP of $599. A $300 discount compared to its 8 core Haswell-E and Broadwell-E predecessors.

Finally we have the entry level Core i9 part, the 6 core 12 thread Core i7 7800K. Just like its 8 core bigger brother its rated at 140W. It has 8.25MB of L3 cache and 6MB of L2 cache. The chip’s base clock is 3.5GHz and it will turbo all the way to 4.0GHz in lightly threaded workloads. This is the cheapest chip in the lineup with an MSRP of $389, which isn’t much cheaper compared to some of its 6 core Broadwell-E and Haswell-E predecessors.

Intel’s Core i7 & i5 Kaby Lake X  Specs & Prices

Moving further down the food chain we have Intel’s small, two SKU,  Kaby Lake X family. It includes a quadcore hyperthreaded i7 part dubbed the 7740K and a quadcore i5 part that lacks hyperthreading dubbed the 7640K.

The Core i7 7740K represents a sidegrade to Intel’s Core i7 7700K in terms of specs, but the company hopes that its presence on the more feature-packed X299 platform will attract more enthusiasts to it.  It runs at base clock speed of 4.3GHz, a meager 100MHz higher than the 7700K,  and a boost clock speed of 4.5GHz matching that of the 7700K. It also has the exact same amount of L3 cache, which is 8MB. Although sadly it is rated at a noticeably higher TDP of 112W. It’s also priced the same as the i7 7700K at $339.

Next up we have the entry level part for the X299 platform, the Core i5 7640K. This chip represents a small improvement compared to the i5 7600K. It runs at a base clock speed of 4.0GHz and a Turbo of 4.2GHz. This chip is priced at $242, which is exactly the same as the i5 7600K’s launch price. Just like its bigger brother its rated at a surprisingly high TDP of 112W.
