Nintendo opened its Nintendo Direct today by celebrating the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros game launching in Japan, and it rounded out that feature by announcing the latest Yoshi game, titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2026.
It's the latest Yoshi standalone title since Yoshi's Crafted World, which was released in 2019. It's another 2D platforming game, and visually seems to carry a lot of inspiration from classic Yoshi game's like Yoshi's Island.
The story kicks off when a mysterious talking book crash-lands near Yoshi, and you jump into each level by jumping into different pages of the book.
The trailer shows off some gameplay, which reveals how Yoshi will use plants to impact the environment in new ways. Discovering how Yoshi can impact the world will fill the book and unveil new game mechanics as you go along.
For now, today's reveal was just a small teaser, and hopefully, we'll start to learn more about Yoshi and the Mysterious Book soon.
