XPG MARS 980 Gen 5 series brings top storage solutions for high-end systems, introducing sequential read/write speeds of up to 14,000/13,000 MB/s.

XPG Launches MARS 980 STORM, MARS 980 BLADE, and MARS 980 PRO Incorporating Hybrid Cooling and 6nm Efficiency for Next-Gen Performance

Storage and memory manufacturer XPG has launched its new lineup of Gen 5 SSDs called MARS 980, featuring a PCI-E Gen 5.0 interface for blazing read and write speeds. The new lineup is aimed at gamers, tech enthusiasts, and overclockers who want to achieve quick data processing.

The MARS 980 is divided into three categories: STORM, BLADE, and PRO series, targeting different segments, but all deliver a maximum of 14,000 MB/s of sequential read and 13,000 MB/s of sequential write speeds. The 980 STORM is offered for maximum performance and brings hybrid cooling, incorporating both liquid and air cooling, which makes the SSD quite thick. There are copper heat pipes and dual integrated fans for continuous heat dissipation, ensuring the SSDs can work at their full potential for longer periods.

The MARS 980 PRO is another high-end SSD solution that brings a powerful cooling solution and utilizes a 6nm high-efficiency controller for reducing power consumption. It is aimed at achieving a good balance between cooling and performance and integrates a fan inside the aluminum alloy heatsink. The MARS 980 BLADE also delivers equivalent sq. read and write speeds to the 980 STORM, but XPG aimed it at the PlayStation 5 console, while the STORM is aimed at more intensive operations such as AI-driven computations and data analytics. As per XPG, the 980 PRO's cooling solution can reduce temperatures by 15% compared to fanless heatsinks.

The MARS 980 BLADE is aimed at the more affordable segment, offering a fully passive cooling solution, aimed primarily for systems like notebooks and PCs. Delivering the same 14,000 MB/s and 13,000 MB/s of sequential read and write speeds, respectively, the 980 PRO is on par with modern PCI-E 5.0 SSD solutions.

Similar to the 980 BLADE, the 980 PRO is also aimed at gaming consoles or high-end PCs and offers up to 4 TB of storage capacity. All the MARS 980 series SSDs are currently live on XPG's official website, but their availability and prices are yet to be disclosed.
