[Updated]: List of Lumia Smartphones Eligible for Windows 10 Upgrade
[Update]: Microsoft has now confirmed that the list shared earlier only shows the devices that will receive Windows 10 Mobile upgrade in the first wave. All of the Lumia devices will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile eventually.
This is an initial list of in-market devices to receive the Windows 10 update. It is our ambition to bring Windows 10 to all Lumia devices running Lumia Denim software, noting that some features will vary, based on the hardware specifications.
Microsoft had claimed that all the Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices will receive the Windows 10 upgrade. After the launch of the operating system for desktop, Microsoft has now released the list of Lumia devices that will receive Windows 10 Mobile once the OS is ready for smaller screens.
List of Lumia devices getting Windows 10 Mobile update:
There is no mention if this list only includes devices receiving the update in the first wave or is a complete, final list. It’s very likely that all the Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices will get to upgrade to the Windows Phone 10 sooner or later but here is what Microsoft has officially put out:
US “Our newest Lumia smartphones – the Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL and Lumia 430 Dual SIM – will receive a free upgrade to Windows 10″
UK “The following Lumia smartphones will receive a free upgrade when available: Lumia 435, Lumia 535, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, and Lumia 930.”
Rest of World “Lumia 430, Lumia 435, Lumia 532, Lumia 535, Lumia 540, Lumia 640, Lumia 640 XL, Lumia 735, Lumia 830, and Lumia 930.”
Popular devices, including the flagship Lumia 1520, Lumia 730, 520, 630, and 635 are all missing from this list regardless of their comparative popularity among the line-up.
Lumia smartphones listed above will be the first to receive the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade. However, Windows 10 is running on all the Lumia devices through the Windows Insider program. This means that even if your Lumia isn’t included in the first wave, you can get the update via Insider app.
