Publisher Team17 has just signed the open-world 19th-century wild west survival adventure game, Westlanders, and revealed that it'll now launch into early access sometime in 2027, instead of its previously indicated 2026 release window.
After beginning its development journey with Radical Theory as its marketing partner, Team17 has picked up Westlanders to take it the rest of the way and across the finish line. It's a partnership that Ferran Punti, chief executive officer of the game's developer, The Breach Studios, calls a "perfect" match.
"We could not be more excited to welcome Team17 to the Wild West, they are the perfect publishing partner to help our open-world dreams become a reality," Punti said in a press release. "We also want to say thank you to Radical Theory for all their support as our marketing partner over the last eight months, Westlanders would not be where it is today without their support."
Westlanders challenges you to explore, but most importantly survive in the 19th-century western frontier. You begin with a dream and a Wagon, which serves as your mobile home base for a journey that'll begin with a nomadic lifestyle before you have the resources to build a place of your own to settle down in. It's also not all trees and forests, as you'll have multiple different biomes to explore, each providing its own survival challenges you'll have to overcome to collect the resources stored out there in the wild.
For Team17's part, general manager Harley Homewood added, "We are thrilled to be partnering with The Breach Studios to publish Westlanders - their unique take on the survival-crafting genre had us hooked from the get go, and we know players will fall in love with the beautifully hostile world the team has created, just like we have."
The Breach Studios estimates Westlanders will remain in early access for about a year, with its 1.0 launch to coincide with its arrival on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
