Watch Dogs 2 Running on AMD A10 APU
We're at it again with the APU. Last go around we threw the A10 7890k at Battlefield 1 and this go around it's Watch Dogs 2's turn. We've already broken down the performance of Watch Dogs 2 on our test system where we proved that the game is quite the beast to run at full Ultra. We also so the benefits of enabling Ubisoft's Temporal Filtering to drastically increase the performance of the game and were keen to see if it had any real benefits down on the low end of the spectrum of computer parts.
Using our typical test system for APU performance we didn't dig in too deep on the performance metrics but rather worked on a video where we went through changing settings and seeing the performance metrics change in real time. This way we're able to see just what these changes actually look like so there aren't any performance graphs associated with this test. If charts and graphs are something you'd like to see return to our APU testing just let me know in the comments section.
AMD APU Test System
|Motherboard||ASUS ROG Crossblade Ranger|
|Memory||16GB (4x4GB) Corsair Vengeance LP DDR3 2133MHz. 2GB to iGPU|
|Storage||Visiontek 240GB SSD|
|PSU||Bitfenix Fury 550G|
Sometimes seeing if you can get a game performing well under the minimum is fun. Just like I said at the end of the video, this is more of 'Can it be done' rather than a 'Should it be done' scenario. If anything I was actually surprised by the results and didn't expect near what the A10 7890k was able to push out. At the end of the day this makes me a little more anxious for new Zen based APUs with beefed up GPU cores along with DDR4.
