Users report issue where iPhone akarm is not playing a sound

For the past few weeks, several reports have surfaced and gained traction on social media, suggesting that their iPhones are glitching and the alarms are not working normally. The issue revolves around alarms not playing any sound, which is causing inconveniences and hindrances.

Apple is said to have confirmed to Joanna Stern of The Wall Street Journal that it is aware of the bug and is working to fix the ongoing issue. iPhone users expressed their concern over the issue on Apple Support, Reddit, and TikTok.

The alarm issue later on picked up steam as it was even mentioned in Today Show, aired on NBC. A large number of users have experienced it and claimed that restarting the iPhone did not help much with fixing the bug. Some of the users claimed to have found a workaround for the issue and the possible cause as well. It was claimed by some TikTok and Reddit users that the problem stems from the Attention Aware feature, but these are mere speculation at this stage as Apple has not issued a statement on the matter.

The reason for the Attention Aware feature being linked up with the prevailing problem is that the feature is meant to lower the sound volume for alerts when you are looking at your device. While the feature could rest at the roots of the issue, we do not have any confirmations from Apple. The feature could potentially falter in detecting attention and reducing the volume of the alarms even when the iPhone users are asleep.

You can try your luck and disable the feature from the Settings app to see if the issue is temporarily fixed. Follow the miniature guide below to turn the Attention Aware feature off:

Step 1: Go to Settings

Step 2: Tap on Face ID & Passcode

Step 3: Turn off the Attention Aware feature.

The issue was fixed for many users, but some claimed this did not work for them. Apple will potentially release a fix with its next software update, which is expected to arrive later this month with iOS 17.5. However, there is no definite time and date mentioned for the update to be released. You can try the fix now and let us know in the comments if it worked for you.
