That Trump Mobile has an eccentric bent is no longer a revelation. Even so, the extent to which the company is willing to give itself up to its eccentric proclivities is certainly a bit jarring,
Consider the latest episode of Trump Mobile's rebellious streak, where it has seemingly violated the sanctity of pre-orders by opening up sales of its T1 Phone to the public at large without clearing the reservation backlog first.
Those who paid Trump Mobile a $100 deposit to gain early access to the T1 Phone suddenly find themselves at the back of the proverbial queue
As stated earlier, Trump Mobile is now allowing the public at large to buy the T1 Phone. You simply need to fill in your personal and financial details on the company's website to get your hands on the now-ancient mid-ranger.
While ungated sales are typically a cause for celebration, Trump Mobile has seemingly opened the floodgates without clearing its pre-order backlog first, as per the available anecdotal evidence. For instance, Android Authority has just confirmed that it's still waiting for a "shipping notification or any meaningful update." Presumably, the situation is not too different for the vast majority of people who've already pre-ordered a T1 Phone, especially as per the online chatter.
This step is, of course, quite unfair to the 600,000 or so people who paid a $100 deposit each quite a while back to reserve their very own T1, netting Trump Mobile ~$60 million in cash proceeds.
So, let me get this straight. Trump Mobile collects a fortune from its reservation holders, uses that liquidity to streamline its operations, and then shoves those people towards the back of the queue, all the while allowing the largely indifferent general public to jump ahead and start receiving their T1 Phones? Make this make sense!
This is merely the latest in a long litany of controversies for the still-fledgling Trump Mobile. As we reported recently, Trump Mobile's PR firm has now disassociated itself from the company. Do note that it was this firm's representative who had given the now-infamous statement to USA Today back in June 2025, asserting that the T1 Phone was made right here in the United States. Trump Mobile has, since then, altered its marketing narrative to "Assembled in America" from the earlier "Made in America" slogan.
Of course, Trump Mobile suffered its most serious setback only a few days back, when iFixit demonstrably proved that the T1 Phone was nothing but a glorified copy of the HTC U24 Pro, replete with the same mainboard and display connectors.
For the benefit of those who might not be aware, the T1 is an Android smartphone with middling specs: a 6.8-inch screen (against Trump Mobile's own assertions of a 6.78-inch one), a 50MP main rear camera, a 50MP selfie camera, a 5,000mAh battery (with support for 30W charging), 512GB of storage, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Also, do note that Trump Mobile has begun positioning the T1 Phone's $499 retail tag as a "promotional price," claiming only that its new price tag would be "less than $1,000."
