Truecaller is a caller ID company that has recently partnered with Microsoft to bring a truly customized experience for its users with the help of an AI assistant. The company will use Microsoft's Azure AI to create a digital clone of the user's voice to help get back to calls using the AI-generated version of the voice. This new personalized voice feature gives us another glimpse of the AI advancements and the role it will play in how we communicate.

With the help of Microsoft's Azure AI, Truecaller is set on bringing a new feature that allows users to create an AI version of their own voice to answer calls

Truecaller did incorporate an AI assistant feature previously in 2022 that had the capability to automatically answer calls and screen them on the user's behalf with a given set of voices to choose from. However, with the new partnership, the company is going one step further and bringing forward more customization with the help of a digital voice version of the user. The replicated voice is created by the AI assistant using one of the user's recorded clips.

With the help of AI integration, Truecaller is determined to enhance the user experience not only in terms of customized voice experience but also by screening calls and detecting spam. The Voice Assistant would ask questions and then let the user know if the call should be answered. The user is then given the autonomy to either answer the call themselves or have the AI Assistant take it.

In Microsoft's blog post, Truecaller's product director and general manager Raphael Mimoun shared his thoughts on the advanced feature it intends to bring forward:

The personal voice feature allows our users to use their own voice, enabling the digital assistant to sound just like them when handling incoming calls. This groundbreaking capability not only adds a touch of familiarity and comfort for the users but also showcases the power of AI in transforming the way we interact with our digital assistants.

Microsoft first showcased Azure AI Speech's upgraded feature, Personal Voice, during the Build Conference. This feature can create a replicated AI version of the user's voice, which can be used within apps. However, this personalized feature is currently only limited to specific use cases such as voice assistants, speech translations, or even content creation. You can watch the demo of the feature below:

Microsoft stated in a blog post that watermarks are added automatically to the voice created through AI Azure's Personal Voice. It even provided a code of conduct to ensure it sticks to its commitment to bringing forward responsible AI.
