Today in Android Oreo: HTC 10, Xiaomi Mi Mix and more
Despite being released a while ago, very few devices are yet to get a taste of Android Oreo. Very few manufacturers have been actively pushed Oreo on to their devices, and HTC happens to be one of them. The HTC 10 Oreo rollout had been in motion for a while, and now it looks like it’s beginning to roll out to the unlocked US variant of the device. The update on the HTC 10 is 1.32GB and carries the build number 3.16.617.2. The download files are also available on HTC’s website if the OTA has yet to hit your device. Hopefully, carrier variants of the HTC 10 will follow closely behind.
Xiaomi Mi Mix and Mi 5 might get an update after all
Over the years, Xiaomi has perfected the art of manufacturing the perfect mid-range smartphone, and their Android form MIUI is arguably one of the best around. However, the company has been notorious for infrequent delivery of updates on their devices. A good chunk of Xiaomi devices is yet to receive Android Nougat, let alone Oreo.
Now, It looks like Xiaomi is testing Android Oreo updates for the Mi 5 and the Mi Mix. The firmware files were obtained by XDA developers and are not available for download at the moment. However, there is a chance that the update might never see the light of day as Xiaomi could just be testing the feasibility of Oreo for the devices.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro’s Oreo Update May Bring Project Treble Compatibility
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series of devices have been a consistent favorite among fans since its release. The latest addition to the series, the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro are just as good and deliver excellent features for a reasonable price. One downside of the device is the fact that is still ships with Android Nougat out of the box.
Of all the Xiaomi devices likely to receive an Oreo update, the Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro are one on top of that list. XDA developers dug around in the device firmware a little and found some code that indicates compatibility with project treble.
Oreo rolling out to AT&T Moto Z2 Force
The Moto Z2 Force is Motorola’s current flagship device, and the Verizon model started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo in late December.The T-Mobile variant received the update shortly after and for some reason, it has taken AT&T two more months to deliver the update, but its finally here The update started rolling out on February 20. The download is 334MB and has a build number of OCX27.109-47. AT&T’s website says the update contains the January 1 security patch level, but some users reported that it is still in December.
