Modder rejuvenate has released yet another major update for The Witcher 3 Online, the mod that allows multiple users to play in CD Projekt RED's open world action RPG masterpiece.

Two weeks ago, the mod received update 3.0, which brought full Gwent match synchronization, resurrecting online multiplayer matches years after CD Projekt RED took the standalone Gwent game offline for good. Now, update 4.0 introduces two big features: a party system and cutscene synchronization. You can find the full changelog below:

  • Party System: Join a party with other players to synchronize time, weather, and cutscene dialog choices. View players in your party on the HUD.
  • Cutscene Sync: Dialogue choices the party leader chooses are selected for all players in the party. This helps players complete quests more easily together.
  • Added dyed armor color sync
  • Added proper localization to every string used in the mod for better translation support
  • Fix mod not working in rare circumstances with a lot of other mods installed
  • Bug fix: fixed getting sent out of the map when entering a cutscene while riding a player
  • Bug fix: fixed rend sync from happening when the player wasn't holding a sword

Of course, this is still a mod bolted on to a game that was never meant to be multiplayer in the first place. However, CD Projekt RED (through the studio formerly known as Molasses Flood) is working on a proper multiplayer spin-off codenamed Project Sirius, which got rebooted in 2023. Last year, one of the co-founders of Molasses Flood hyped Sirius (after departing the studio) as an "amazing multiplayer Witcher game", though we have no idea when, or even if, it'll come out.

Recently, MP1st also reported that a free-to-play co-op The Witcher game is in development for PC and mobile platforms, though they couldn't identify the developer.
