The Pixel 8 Pro, along with its younger sibling, went official last night, and the one thing that stood out the most was the thermometer on the Pro variant. Google talked about how this sensor can help users measure the surface temperature of everyday objects, and Google's implementation of this sensor looks really neat as it does not stick out at all.

The Pixel 8 Pro has a thermometer for your daily use and could soon get medically approved too

To make things even more cohesive, there is even a Thermometer app on the Pixel 8 Pro, and as the name suggests, it allows the user to measure the temperature with ease. You can measure everything ranging from food, beverages, water, cast iron, ceramic, glass, and a lot of other materials, but at the time of writing, the sensor and the app are unable to detect the human body temperature.

Considering how the reading can be used medically, Google has decided to submit the Pixel 8 Pro's Thermometer to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The application is currently under review, and once approved, the phone will be able to take readings of human skin and allow for better monitoring for all users.

Honestly, I am surprised Google decided to add a thermometer to the Pixel 8 Pro. It is not one of the sensors that you get to see very often, and while it surely can be useful for a lot of people who are, for some reason, taking thermal readings, I cannot seem to see myself using the feature all that much. As far as the use for human skin is concerned, we will have to wait and see how the approval goes and whether or not the feature is approved in regions other than the U.S. Hopefully, we will get more information soon.

The Pixel 8 Pro and the younger variant are both excellent phones for anyone who is looking for a stellar experience. If you have been in the market looking for a solid performer with great cameras and the power of AI on the front, then I cannot suggest better phones to go with because what Google has done here is truly incredible and cannot be discounted.
