Supermassive Games, the studio behind games like Until Dawn, The Quarry, The Dark Pictures Anthology and most recently, Little Nightmares 3 followed by Directive 8020 is officially going through a bit of transition. Robert Henrysson, chief executive officer of the studio and partner to its parent company Nordisk Games, is stepping down from his role, Nordisk Games announced today. He's being replaced by Graeme Law in the interim while Supermassive looks for its next leader.
Nordisk shared the news on LinkedIn, where Henrysson soon followed with his own statement. Henrysson was previously chairman and chief executive officer of Avalanche Studios, before joining Nordisk Games as a partner in 2022 and stepping into the role of chief executive officer at Supermassive in 2024.
"During his time, he rebuilt the studio's leadership team, sharpened its strategy and oversaw the completion and launch of Directive 8020, the latest installment in the Dark Pictures series," Nordisk wrote in its statement. "The game received the strongest critical reception in the series to date. This milestone reflects the hard work and commitment of the entire Supermassive Games team, supported by Robert's leadership throughout this important period."
Directive 8020 currently stands at a 72 on Metacritic, and received a 7/10 from Wccftech's reviewer, Kai Tatsumoto. Henrysson also saw Supermassive through its most recent round of layoffs, which also resulted in the delay of Directive 8020 out of a 2025 release window and into 2026, where it did eventually arrive this past May.
"Today marks the end of a very rewarding chapter of my professional life, as I prepare to depart from Nordisk Games, and as the CEO of Supermassive Games," Henrysson wrote on his own LinkedIn account.
"Leading a studio is never a one-man job - it is the entire team's effort. Our committement to continuous improvement was, and continues to be, central to everything we do. To everyone at Supermassive Games, I am so grateful for everything I've learnt and experienced with all of you. You are the greatest storytelling game studio on earth, you rock!"
Both Directive 8020 and Little Nightmares 3 failed to impress us here at Wccftech, as the former was given an aforementioned 7/10 and the latter a 6/10. Little Nightmares 3 also sits at a 71 on Metacritic. Until Dawn, the series that Supermassive is arguably most known for other than its Dark Pictures anthology, is being continued by Firesprite Games, the studio behind Horizon: Call of the Mountain, as they lead development on the recently announced Until Dawn 2.
