Subnautica 2 is the most wishlisted game on Steam among upcoming 2026 titles.

The number of wishlists a game has is never a one-to-one for how many copies it'll see when it finally releases, but you can't say those wishlists count for nothing, especially when there are millions of them, which is exactly what Subnautica 2, Forza Horizon 6, and Resident Evil Requiem have on Steam.

Instead of its usual sales reporting, analyst firm Alinea Analytics' latest report digs into which upcoming titles have the most wishlists on Steam. Now, it's worth noting that the report clarifies that Valve's own ranking for the 'Top Wishlists' games on Steam also accounts for how quickly a game is earning wishlists. Which means that a game recently added to the store could soar to the top of the charts, despite technically having a lower wishlist count than something that's been available to wishlist for longer.

At the time of this writing, however, that's not an issue for the game in the number one spot, which has been available to wishlist for well over a year now. According to Alinea Analytics, it's Subnautica 2 sitting at the top of the charts, with over 3.8 million players including it on their wishlists. Trailing behind it by well over a million wishlist inclusions is Forza Horizon 6 in second place at 2.6 million. Lastly, trailer not-so-far behind second place is Resident Evil Requiem in third at 2.5 million wishlists.

On top of those wishlists, Forza Horizon 6 and Resident Evil Requiem have already sold approximately 250K and 220K copies, respectively, through pre-order sales. Subnautica 2 is not yet available for pre-order, so we don't get an early look at its sales.

"Subnautica 2’s impressive pre-launch metrics are no surprise," Alinea Analytics writes. "The original game has sold 15M copies across all platforms, and even the 2019 standalone expansion, Subnautica: Below Zero, is approaching 5M. Steam is the series’ main platform, accounting for two-thirds of total sales."

The report also adds that the fact that Subnautica 2 has been available to wishlist since 2024 plays a major role in it holding the top spot. One thing not mentioned in the report that will be interesting to note is whether the legal battle between Subnautica's IP owner, Krafton, and the co-founders of Subnautica developer, Unknown Worlds.

As that legal battle continues, with its updates surely to make headlines, it'll be interesting to see if that has any impact on the sentiment towards the game when we do finally get a release date. That's not to suggest there will be any major boycott or backlash; it'll just be interesting to see if that plays any role in the story when Subnautica 2 finally gets into players' hands.
