Star Wars will reportedly avoid September's bloodbath, but only barely

September 2026 will be long remembered as one of the most packed months in recent memory for video game releases. In the attempt to avoid releasing too close to Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19, publishers such as Remedy Entertainment, Insomniac, and CAPCOM are launching their heavy hitters in the span of a few weeks, and with more announcements coming tomorrow during the Summer Game Fest showcase and the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, the month could become even more packed. Star Wars Zero Company, the tactical turn-based game in development by Bit Reactor and Respawn, thankfully, will reportedly avoid the bloodbath, but only by a few days.

According to a new report posted on Dealabs by the ever-reliable billbil-kun, the turn-based game will launch on August 27 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, barely avoiding a September launch to enjoy likely better visibility compared to games launching in the following weeks. The report also confirmed the game will receive a Deluxe Edition slightly more expensive than the Standard Edition, though the bonuses have yet to be confirmed, aside from the early access window, which has become so common in the past few years.

  • Standard : $49.99 / €49.99 on PC — $59.99 on consoles (price in euros unknown)
  • Deluxe : $59.99 / €59.99 on PC — $69.99 on consoles (price in euros unknown)

The first proper look at Star Wars Zero Company and its release date announcement are right around the corner, as they have been confirmed for the Summer Game Fest showcase, so it won't be long to learn more about a project that is set to break the mold for Star Wars games. In the past few years, we have seen plenty of action games based on the franchise, but never a tactical turn-based game, so it will be very interesting to see how developer Bit Reactor will take advantage of the setting to deliver an experience that has been described as more than Star Wars XCOM.

Star Wars Zero Company isn't the only game based on the franchise launching this year, as Star Wars Galactic Racer will release this October.

These aren't the only games based on the franchise in the works, either. Last week, we learned that Star Wars Jedi 3 will feature an older Cal Kestis and that Quantic Dream’s Star Wars Eclipse is continuing development amid issues at the developer and has been missing in action since its reveal. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a spiritual successor to the immortal Knights of the Old Republic (whose remake is still in the works), is also in development.
