PS4 Sales Reach 73.6 Million Globally; 5.9 Million Units Sold Through During 2017 Holiday Season
Total PS4 sales have reached 73.6 million units and 5.9 million consoles were sold during the 2017 holiday season, Sony has announced.
These sales numbers imply that 20.2 million PS4 units were sold through to costumers in 2017 (cumulative PS4 sales reached 54.3 million units last year).
“Thanks to the continued support from our fans across the globe, we are honored to announce remarkable sales during the holiday season,” said John Kodera, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “PlayStation Network continues to demonstrate spectacular growth, with the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers surpassing 31.5 million*5, and PS Store recording its largest-ever monthly sales of content in December 2017. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our community and our partners for helping us achieve such phenomenal milestones. We promise our unwavering commitment to bring more amazing experiences to our fans, including exclusive games and innovative network services, as PS4 continues to flourish as the best place to play.”
In addition, Sony announced that more than 55.9 million PlayStation 4 games were sold during the 2017 holiday season in retail stores globally and digitally. In total, up to 645 million PS4 game copies have been sold as of December 31, 2017.
The PlayStation 4 was released by the end of 2013. For reference, Sony’s best-selling PlayStation console to date, the PS2, managed to sell through approximately 71.3 million units after being on the market for four years. As of March 2012, 155 million PS2 units have been sold.
The PlayStation 4, and the PlayStation 4 Pro, are available globally right now.
