The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is undoubtedly one of the biggest and most important games of the generation. It is an essential Nintendo Switch title and a pretty groundbreaking open world game. It is the exact kind of game that Nintendo is known for – the kind that is delayed multiple times, but releases to stellar critical reception. So the news that a sequel is on the way is all Nintendo needed to do to reignite the fire of anticipation within fans.

During their annual Nintendo Direct during E3 2019, Nintendo revealed loads of brand new titles coming to Nintendo Switch, but none were quite as exciting as their finale, a small section of gameplay footage from a brand new title in The Legend of Zelda series.

The game doesn’t have a subtitle yet, but from the trailer, we can assume it’s a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. Zelda and Link are both there, and they appear to be exploring a Gerudo tomb – at least, that’s this writer’s opinion after seeing the jewelry on the mummified corpse they find inside.

The duo might just awaken yet another ancient evil, and the trailer cuts away at the end as we see Hyrule Castle start rising from its foundations, once more putting Hyrule in peril.

It’s likely that Hyrule itself and the mechanics of the game will be borrowed from Breath of the Wild, but with some brand new areas and dungeons to keep things interesting. Here’s hoping we won’t be hunting 900 Korok seeds.

The announcement of a sequel to one of the biggest games in recent years is huge and has got Nintendo Switch owners quaking in their boots. Let us know what you think of the announcement in the comments below, and stay on Wccftech for more from E3 2019.
