For the Galaxy Unpacked event coming in a few weeks, Samsung has some exciting upgrades and products lined up, but the most anticipated wearables are the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, coming alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. Many speculations regarding their specifications and designs have emerged reminding us of the strategy originally adopted by the competition. The latest leak gives away more details on the upcoming smartwatch series in terms of processing power.
Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra is competing against Apple Watch Ultra and goes ahead with an assertive branding strategy, as per latest leaks
Samsung is pivoting away from the original names for its high-end models. Instead, it would now go for "Ultra" for its flagship wearables, replacing "Classic" and "Pro" as the definition of everything premium. This marks a change in the branding strategy of the company and helps in distinguishing it from other variants. It also seems like the brand positioning is aimed at directly competing with the Apple Watch Ultra and taking a rather aggressive approach to it.
The most significant upgrade reported by AndroidHeadlines is the new chipset, which was previously a 5nm processor and would now change to a 3nm Exynos chip with 5 cores for enhanced performance. Since the company has not made many changes to the processors since 2021, this would mark a major upgrade, similar to what Apple did with the Series 9 and Ultra 2. The new chipset would be relatively more efficient, which will be evident in the wearable's battery life.
Many users have long expressed their dissatisfaction with the storage space, suggesting an incremental approach by the company in terms of device storage. Now, this is being changed by opting for double the internal storage, 32GB, for the upcoming lineup. However, little has been revealed about the RAM capacity. The battery capacity would most likely be the same as the predecessor for the Galaxy Watch 7 models.
The Galaxy Watch 7 would come in the same sizes as the Galaxy Watch 6, 40 mm and 44 mm, respectively. The OLED screen would come with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, sporting a Sapphire Crystal for the screen and an Armor Aluminum case for added protection, much like Apple does for its premium series. While the smartwatch will come in two colors, it features the same durability as the previous version, 5ATM pressure resistance, and IP68 rating, with military grade MIL-STD-810H certification.
The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra, on the other hand, comes with 3,000 nits of peak brightness, and the only watch with that amount of brightness is the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The smartwatch would feature an extra physical button for greater customization, similar to Apple's Action Button. Unlike the Galaxy 7, the Ultra watch would come in only one case size, which is 47mm, and come with an LTE variant. It would also go for a titanium build, which is pretty similar to its competitor. The premium device would be available in three colors, have an IP68 rating, 10ATM pressure resistance, and come with a grade 4 titanium cover.
Regarding the pricing model for the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch 7 Ultra we do not have much information, but with the LTE variant and the relatively bigger casing, we can expect Samsung to go for an aggressive pricing strategy for its Ultra model. It could also be a bit on the higher end to compete better with the Apple Watch Ultra. For Galaxy Watch 7, we are expecting it to follow the same format as the Watch 6.
