Samsung could rename the Galaxy S25 Ultra as the Galaxy S25 Note

The Galaxy Note lineup was eventually dissolved and merged with the Galaxy S range of smartphones, with the top-end model now closely resembling Samsung’s now-discontinued flagships. However, the Korean giant might have a change of heart and bring back the ‘Note’ moniker for the upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra, calling it the Galaxy S25 Note, while also renaming the Galaxy S25 Plus.

A name change for both the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Plus could suggest a shift in delivering an upgraded flagship experience too

With Google not only introducing a new Pixel 9 Pro XL but also adding a fresh name to its second-generation foldable flagship, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a shift in the naming scheme of smartphones is a consistent tactic applied by manufacturers. This gives the impression that the latest devices do not just tout a different name but also deliver an improved experience in contrast to their predecessors. Yogesh Brar, who goes by his X handle @heyitsyogesh, reveals that the new name of the Galaxy S25 Ultra could be the Galaxy S25 Note, while the Galaxy S25 Plus could be called the Galaxy S25 Pro.

The transition from ‘Ultra’ to ‘Note’ likely means that Samsung wants to remind future buyers that they are investing in its top-end flagship, which will also arrive with ‘out of the box’ features baked into the S-Pen. While the Korean giant has offered these features in previous launches, it appears that it took a while for it to introduce a name change. As for the Galaxy S25 Plus, its potential name change to Galaxy S25 Pro signifies that the ‘middle of the pack’ member could finally be treated to proper hardware that elevates its importance.

This year, with the Galaxy S24 Plus, was the first time that Samsung shipped the latter with 12GB of RAM, making it feature the exact same memory count as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Galaxy S25 Note is said to be packing 16GB RAM to help set itself apart from the rest of the lineup, along with sporting a new design thanks to a render shared by a tipster. It is entirely possible that Samsung will not move away from its typical naming practices, so we will treat this rumor with a pinch of salt and come back with more details.
