Samsung launched its first smart ring at Unpacked 2024 and grabbed considerable attention due to its advanced health-centric capabilities and lightweight titanium build, which make the ring comfortable to wear throughout the day. Before its launch, the tech community drew parallels between the Oura Ring and the Galaxy Ring and noted their striking similarities. The South Korean tech giant claimed otherwise and ensured no mirroring through its legal protection. However, as per recently surfaced certification documents, Oura has decided to make the competition more fierce by gearing up for its next-generation ring launch.
After Samsung launched its Galaxy Ring, images have emerged showcasing the Oura Ring Gen 4 to be in process
Users and tech enthusiasts have long been mirroring the Galaxy Ring with the Oura Ring, even before its launch. To combat this comparison, Samsung legally protected its new wearable from any future infringement and copyright issues, highlighting that no patents have been violated and there is no imitation of the competition. While that settled down the parallels drawn for a while, a recent certification process shows that Oura is taking the competition fiercely as its next-generation smart ring is ready to take on the Galaxy Ring.
Oura has been a leader in the smart ring category, but with Samsung stepping in, the segment is seeing some major competition. This could potentially be why Oura is focusing on bringing its Oura Ring Gen 4 right after the Galaxy Ring launch became the show's star. Android Authority recently spotted a certification listing of the upcoming Oura Ring 4, which points towards the company gearing up for its launch. The certification listing also contains images showcasing the new Oura Ring in size 10 and the model number 0A11.
According to the images of the Oura Ring 4, it will not have an inwardly curved formation like the Galaxy Ring but will opt for a flat and more sleek design with no evident bumps or protrusions, similar to its current Horizon edition. The report further indicates an OA12 product label, but limited information is available on it for now. We assume the OA12 could indicate that the Oura Ring 4 Heritage variant is similar to its predecessor. The document also hints towards a Gold color option for the upcoming smart ring and the possibility of sizes 7-15 or even greater size options.
There has been no confirmation from Oura yet that the Oura Ring Gen 4 is under work. However, with the recent certification list, we are given sufficient evidence on the next generation smart ring to be in process. We hope for some major advanced sensor capabilities coming to Gen 4, especially given how Oura Ring 3 marked major sleep monitoring upgrades.
