If you still want to make an upgrade, note that you will have to pay more to experience those blazing-fast speeds. For the non-heatsink versions, Amazon is now charging you $139.99 for the 1TB version, $227 for the 2TB version, $399 for the 4TB version, and $916 for the 8TB version. As for the heatsink versions, the 2TB version is listed for $229.70, with the 4TB version going for $409, and the 8TB drive going for $919.99.
The upsetting aspect of Amazon’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale is that there weren’t any discounts applied to 8TB PCIe NVMe Gen 4 solid-state drives. Whether you can attribute that to the lack of price cuts to increasing NAND cost, or the fact that high-capacity 8TB drivers aren’t in demand as much, the scenario is the exact opposite of what we experienced last year.
Thankfully, there is still a small sliver of hope, as Samsung’s 9100 PRO, which supports the significantly faster PCIe NVMe Gen 5 protocol, is 22 percent off, meaning that the 8TB SSD with a heatsink that would typically be sold for $1,019.99 can now be yours for $799.99, with its retail price slashed by $220.

With the latest and greatest PCIe NVMe Gen 5 protocol, Samsung’s 9100 PRO is the company’s fastest SSD to date, with its sequential read and write speeds reaching 14,800MB/s and 13,400MB/s, respectively. Additionally, random read and write IOPS of up to 2,200K and 2,600K can also be achieved by the 9100 PRO, ensuring your desktop PC or laptop becomes ultra-responsive and snappy.
The version with the heatsink can be outfitted in the majority of form factors thanks to its slim profile that measures only 0.35 inches in thickness. Still, the best practice is to make the right measurements of whatever machine you plan on outfitting the 9100 PRO into, then proceed with the purchase. In any case, you’ll have to add some kind of cooling to this SSD because PCIe NVMe Gen 5 drives can get insanely hot.
While you do get insanely fast speeds from the 9100 PRO, it will be of little use if there is insufficient cooling. We don’t think that these discounts will be active after Amazon’s Cyber Monday 2025, so if you want to futureproof yourself in both speeds and storage, you should seriously consider this PCIe NVMe Gen 5 drive as your next upgrade.
