CAPCOM leaker Dusk Golem claimed today that the Japanese studio is considering whether to give the green light to a Resident Evil Revelations remake. The leaker posted a list of the Resident Evil timeline, going from 0 (which has a remake already in development for a planned 2028 launch, according to Dusk Golem) to Requiem, and it included both Revelation titles. When asked by a follower whether CAPCOM actually considered those to be part of the mainline Resident Evil games, the leaker answered:

There's a reason the directors of Resident Evil Revelations 1 and Revelations 2 are the ones spearheading the franchise at present. The original idea may have been to tell a story set in the past, but their foundations ended up being crucial. The possibility of doing a Rev 1 Remake has been tossed around.

Indeed, Koshi Nakanishi, the Director of Resident Evil Requiem, also previously directed the first Revelations game - his first experience as a director on the franchise.

Originally released in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS handheld system (though it later launched on PC and other consoles with an HD remaster), Resident Evil Revelations is set between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 and follows BSAA agents Jill Valentine and Parker Luciani investigating an abandoned luxury cruise liner, the Queen Zenobia, where they were sent to locate the missing Chris Redfield and his partner Jessica Sherawat. The story unfolds in an episodic TV thriller format, switching between multiple character perspectives across different locations, including the cruise ship, snow-covered mountains, and coastal European settings. At the center of it all is a bioterrorist organization called Veltro and a new viral threat, the T-Abyss, which threatens to contaminate the world's oceans.

In terms of gameplay, it was a step back from the excessive action focus of Resident Evil 5 (and 6, which would launch after a few months), returning to the series' classic survival horror staples: deliberate pacing, scarce ammo, and puzzles sprinkled liberally throughout the adventure. That said, the clunky controls could certainly use updating in a Resident Evil Revelations remake.

A sequel, Resident Evil Revelations 2, was released in 2015. The quality of both Revelations games is considered to be slightly inferior to most of the mainline games, but with the enormous success enjoyed by the previous remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4, as well as the new sales records set by Requiem, CAPCOM is clearly looking at every potential source of revenue from its golden goose.
