As it pushes towards expanding the PC and smartphone markets, Qualcomm has made attempts to make its Snapdragon branding well-known to the world. It started by becoming the sponsor of Manchester United, one of the most prominent and oldest football clubs in England. The branding on the jersey is prominent, hinting that the San Diego firm must have invested millions on the deal to get its name out in the open.
The Snapdragon brand has existed with Qualcomm for almost 20 years, but the company is now playing a bigger role
The Snapdragon X Elite is witnessed by many to be more than just a chipset launch. After numerous failed attempts to get its SoC to Windows notebooks in an effort to deliver an alternative solution that rivals the performance of Apple’s M-series and duke it out with AMD and Intel chips, Qualcomm finally has a product that is a worthy competitor for the Windows for ARM platform. Its upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 launch will also hold great significance, as it will be Qualcomm’s first smartphone chipset to feature fully custom CPU cores, meaning that it will follow Apple’s direction regarding in-house silicon.
While the Snapdragon brand has existed with Qualcomm for almost two decades, the responsibilities it has undertaken with its latest and upcoming launches have a greater meaning, one that the company wishes to be made known worldwide. This may be one reason why, starting today, the Manchester United home kit will feature the visible Snapdragon branding, with Jean-Claude Blanc, Manchester United CEO, stating the following regarding the latest partnership:
“The launch of our new home kit is an exciting moment before the start of every season and especially so this year as we welcome Snapdragon as our new principal shirt partner. While the shirt will be the most visible symbol of our collaboration, we are looking forward to using Snapdragon’s processors to enable ground-breaking experiences for fans across the globe, deepening their engagement with the football club they love. We always strive to push boundaries of what’s possible and we are excited to be partnering with a company at the forefront of innovation.”
According to Bloomberg, both Manchester United and Qualcomm have declined to comment on the monetary size of the sponsorship deal, but the media outlet states that the partnership is valued at just over $76 million annually, which is higher than £47 million paid by the current kit sponsor, German software company TeamViewer SE. The agreement between the two entities will last for three years, with an option for two additional years.
