Pixel Watch 2 Will Offer a Lighter Construction Thanks to Aluminum, as Google Ditches the Use of Stainless Steel

When you are talking about smartphones and wearables, aside from plastic, aluminum is one of the most common materials that are used in making these devices. Sure, Apple love sticking to stainless steel, but for the most part, other companies prefer aluminum. That is why I was surprised when the original Pixel Watch debuted with a stainless steel construction, but it seems Google has changed its mind about the sequel, as Pixel Watch 2 is rumored to sport an aluminum body.

Pixel Watch 2 is even lighter than its predecessor thanks to Google choosing aluminum as the material of choice

Based on information obtained by folks over at 9to5Google from trusted sources, it appears that Google is going to use aluminum for the Pixel Watch 2. The watch that was rumored to be unveiled earlier this year at Google I/O 2023 will now be launching alongside the Pixel 8 series in October, and we already have some information on what might be coming to the new smartwatch.

While aluminum is the material of choice for a lot of companies, it is also worth noting that it is lighter than stainless steel and not as strong. However, I doubt that Pixel Watch 2 will be running into any issues that would drastically impact the overall build quality because, honestly, you don't really see these devices fail. I mean, my Galaxy S22 Ultra dropped from a pretty scary height yesterday, and aside from the screen protector, nothing else shattered, and I am talking about a phone with no case. So, it is safe to say that a smartwatch made out of aluminum is not going to suffer any major damage while also allowing Google to shave off some weight.

For those who haven't been staying in touch, the Pixel Watch 2 is alleged to pack some really nice updates over its predecessor, including better battery life, a newer chipset, and betters sensors. The new smartwatch is going to be powered by the latest Wear OS 4, which could debut as easily as tomorrow or will fully debut in August. We also heard that the watch will feature continuous electrodermal activity (cEDA) sensor that will help with stress management and tracking, along with a plethora of other sensors for those who want to.

It is safe to say that Google really wants the Pixel Watch 2 to be a success, and as someone who is still waiting for the smartwatches to evolve even further. For those interested, the smartwatch will be going official in October alongside the Pixel 8 phones. So be sure to stay tuned for more information on Google's latest smartwatch.
