Nintendo announced a new line of interactive build-and-play experiences, Nintendo Labo, for the Switch last week, but did you know that one analyst already mentioned something related to Nintendo cardboard back in 2012?

Labo allows kids to transform modular sheets of cardboard into creations called Toy-Con. “From a piano to a motorbike, a robot and more, each Toy-Con comes to life when combined with Nintendo Switch in different ways”, the press release from last week reads. “As you build, you will have fun discovering how the technology works, and might even invent new ways to play with each Toy-Con!”

“Nintendo Labo continues our longstanding mission of making people smile by surprising them with new experiences,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO. “It is an exciting evolution of the Nintendo Switch platform – one designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and imagination in people of all ages.”

Who would have guessed that an entertainment behemoth such as Nintendo would be releasing modular cardboard sheets to interact with one of its videogame platforms? From the looks of it, the ever-popular technology analyst from Wedbush Securities, Michael Pachter, did back in 2012.

“I don’t think Nintendo fans are so stupid they would buy a piece of cardboard”, Pachter said on Bonus Round six years ago. “A box on the other hand, that says Nintendo on it, they probably would. Remember when you were a kid and you get gifts, and when you’re really little you like the box better than the gift? That’s how I think of Nintendo fanboys.”

An interesting find from Youtuber ‘VideoGameLover58’, and a nice ‘prediction’ from Pachter.
