Overwatch To Get Free Post-Launch Content Such As Heroes & Maps
If you were worried about Overwatch going heavy into DLC and microtransactions territory, this seems to be your lucky day. Game Director Jeff Kaplan has addressed this topic in a developer update, stating that both additional heroes and maps will be free.
As you guys know, we're really excited about the 21 heroes that are in the game. We feel they're playing really well right now, they're balanced, fun and very unique characters. We're really proud of those characters, but we have ideas for additional maps and heroes that we'd like to add to the game, so we thought about this and we decided the best way to add them to the game is to patch them in as free content and not as DLC.
Hopefully that alleviates some concerns that people have. Some of these new heroes we've even hinted at, for those of you who are paying attention there are some easter eggs in the maps. We'll see what happens, we don't have an exact timeline about when new heroes will be added to the game, how soon after launch or how many. That's something that we really need to get a feel for what's healthy for the game. I don't have a lot of specific details, we just know that when we patch them in the game it'll be free content and that was something we wanted to share with you guys.
Kaplan also confirmed that Overwatch will get a proper in-game killfeed, and Blizzard is also going to add the option to skip the killcam all the time.
Overwatch is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Spring 2016, though some lucky folks were selected for the beta test and played the game already.
