Smartwatches have become common to the point that every OEM is giving them a shot, and for all the right reasons. While most companies have enjoyed a decent amount of success with their first smartwatch, it is safe to say that not everyone has gone through the same trajectory. Take OnePlus, for example. The original OnePlus Watch was not at all a good product, and the company wants to make things right with the OnePlus Watch 2.
The OnePlus Watch 2, with its 100-hour battery life and sapphire crystal on the front, sounds like an excellent smartwatch
To no one's surprise, OnePlus has gone ahead and announced the OnePlus Watch 2--although the watch is not available to purchase, based on all the information that the company has shared, it looks like it is going to be a pretty robust offering. The watch will be fully revealed at MWC 2024, which will take place next week.
Kinder Liu, OnePlus President, and COO, has talked about how the company is actually a lot more confident in their smartwatch than before. The OnePlus Watch 2 is going to be a flagship wearable this year.
Marketing talk aside, the company even shared some press renders of the OnePlus Watch 2 showing the watch. The watch will be available in a stainless steel finish and will have two hardware buttons on the right. The company is using a sapphire crystal that is found on traditional watches and is highly scratch-resistant.
Sadly, the company did not reveal any information on the hardware powering the OnePlus Watch 2 but it is said that the watch will be able to deliver up to 100 hours of battery life in Smart Mode. Giving this watch a competitive edge that most of the mainstream smartwatches don't have.
Another thing that I am not sure about is the operating system that will power the OnePlus Watch 2. I would hope that it is WearOS, considering how it has turned into the de facto operating system for good, non-Apple smartwatches.
Honestly, I don't see it as a problem if OnePlus decides to charge more for the OnePlus Watch 2. Premium smartwatches other than Apple are still not common, and while we might get something from Samsung, it won't be a bad thing if OnePlus goes for that spot before Samsung does.
The OnePlus Watch 2 is going to be available in Black Steel and Radiant Steel colorways. The launch date is February 26th, later this month, and we will be sure to get our hands on more information surrounding the new smartwatch, including its price, specs, and availability.
