The NVIDIA Blackwell RTX 50 series GPUs are slowly climbing on the Steam charts, but it's still a long way before even the most popular RTX 50 GPUs can enter the top 10 positions.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Comes Out As the Most Popular RTX 50 Series GPU in the Steam Hardware Survey of August, but RTX 5060 Saw a Bigger Share Increase of 0.41%
The latest Steam Hardware Survey for August is out, and there are some interesting details on the hardware popularity. Keep in mind that the Steam Hardware Survey isn't the most accurate way of knowing the best-selling PC hardware, as it only reflects the hardware of users who choose to participate in the survey. Once again, we are seeing the previous-gen GeForce RTX 4060 dominating the charts, which has been the case for months.
The following entries are dominated by previous-gen GPUs as well, including the RTX 40 series, RTX 30 series, and even the NVIDIA Turing series. This shows that most gamers are still rocking the same GPU from several years ago and haven't updated to the latest RTX 50 GPUs or RX 9000 series due to several reasons.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 GPU Share (Steam Hardware Survey)
| Graphics Card | December 2025 | November 2025 | October 2025 | September 2025 | August 2025 | June 2025 | Starting Share |

| GeForce RTX 5070 | 3.05% | 2.23% | 1.88% | 1.69% | 1.57% | 0.99% | 0.38% (April 25) |
| GeForce RTX 5060 | 2.21% | 1.62% | 1.30% | 1.13% | 1.01% | 0.34% | N/A |
| GeForce RTX 5070 Ti | 1.94% | 1.14% | 0.95% | 0.91% | 0.75% | 0.55% | 0.28% (April 25) |
| GeForce RTX 5060 Ti | 1.74% | 1.20% | 0.99% | 0.89% | 0.74% | 0.41% | 0.21% (May 25) |
| GeForce RTX 5080 | 1.68% | 1.06% | 0.90% | 0.87% | 0.74% | 0.57% | 0.20% (March 25) |
| GeForce RTX 5090 | 0.60% | 0.38% | 0.34% | 0.32% | 0.26% | 0.19% | N/A |
At the 19th position, we have the GeForce RTX 5070, which is one of the latest RTX 50 series GPUs and the most popular one according to Steam Survey. The RTX 5070 isn't just the most popular on Steam, but it is also one of the most popular on major retailers like Amazon.

With an increase of 0.25% in share, GeForce RTX 5070 is slowly climbing to the top and now has a total GPU share of 1.57%. However, looking at the GPU share of other RTX 50 series GPUs, it is apparent that the RTX 5060 is climbing even faster. This budget-segment GPU saw an increase in share by 0.41% in August, which is the highest, even when compared to all the listed GPUs except for the RTX 4060, and now sits at 1.01% market share.

Despite offering 8 GB of VRAM capacity, it appears that a lot of gamers are opting for the RTX 5060, since it's the most reasonable option at $300 price tag, offering decent performance uplifts over GPUs like RTX 4060 and RTX 3060, which are still at around the same price tag on many retailers. Steam survey shows that 8 GB VRAM capacity is also the most popular, with 35.03% of total market share, and gained 1.37% market share in August. This is much higher than the 6.80% market share of 16 GB GPUs and 19.30% for the 12 GB cards.

Unfortunately, there is no trace of any AMD RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9000 GPUs for months, even though they do sell quite well, especially the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB editions. For some reason, they don't even appear in the list, but by no means does it indicate lower popularity than NVIDIA RTX 50 series GPUs. Nonetheless, almost all the RTX 50 series GPUs saw some improvement in market share last month and will continue to do so as the older GPUs get discontinued from the shelves and newer ones take their places.
In the CPU segment, the 6-core CPUs appear to be the most popular, followed by octa-core CPUs and quad-core CPUs. With 30.64% of market share, 6-core CPUs seem to be the sweet spot for most users, especially gamers. OS-wise, Windows 11 has kept its dominance and is now at 63.18% with a 0.28% increase in August.
