The first benchmarks of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080 "Blackwell" Laptop GPU have leaked and out-perform the existing RTX 4090 laptop flagship.
NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080 "Blackwell" Laptop GPU Surfaces At OpenCL For The First Time, Faster Than The RTX 4090 Laptop GPU
While NVIDIA hasn't lifted the review embargo yet, and there is still a long wait from now on, apparently individuals have benchmarked laptops based on NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU, and by the looks of it, the initial numbers look solid.
The laptop GPU has been tested at OpenCL and was running on the Alienware Area-51 laptop, which we have already discussed in detail here. The GPU managed to score 190,326 points at OpenCL, putting it ahead of previous-gen counterparts, such as the GeForce RTX 4080 and the GeForce RTX 4090 laptop GPUs.
Diving into the specifics of NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5080 laptop GPU, the SKU comes with 7680 CUDA cores,16 GB of GDDR7 memory, and an 80-150W TGP. This model is said to target the "enthusiast" segment of the market, offering tremendous performance and generational improvement, which we have already seen in the OpenCL benchmark.
Geekbench 6 OpenCL GPU Benchmark
As you can see in the benchmarks, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU sits 18% ahead of the RTX 4080 Laptop GPU and 6% ahead of the RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. The chip is also on par with the RTX 4070 SUPER Desktop graphics card, which proves that the RTX 5090 Laptop GPU can end up in between the 4070 Ti SUPER and the RTX 4080.
However, it's uncertain whether this particular laptop was tested in ideal conditions, such as optimal driver support, so it might be a possibility that the actual scores may vary once reviewers test out the laptops.
NVIDIA anticipates the launch of the first GeForce RTX 50-powered laptops in March 2025, so within Q1 2025. However, they will debut with an expensive price tag since the Alienware Area-51 is expected to retail for around $2,199, and other models will indeed fall into this price bracket.
