Xbox fans were certainly hoping to see at least a new teaser for Marvel's Blade game during yesterday's Xbox Games Showcase 2026, but that wasn't the case, and now, there might be even worse news. Towards the end of the XBOX Games Showcase 2026 | Giant Bomb Talks Over stream, insider Jeff Grubb offhandedly agreed with a comment that Marvel's Blade game might be dead. It didn't sound like a joke, though it's hard to say whether the statement was based on solid sourcing or rather on hearsay. Grubb revealed a couple of days ago that Gears of War: E-Day would be an Xbox exclusive, and that was confirmed during the showcase. By the way, he also claimed that Marvel's Iron Man game in development at Motive Studios should still be in development.

Dishonored and Deathloop developer Arkane Lyon announced the game at The Game Awards 2023; however, a financial document later revealed that the game only entered full production in late 2024. In late 2025, so only half a year ago, Director Dinga Bakaba asked fans to be patient and promised a "special" game. However, it's entirely possible that the cancellation, if true, occurred very recently amid Xbox's flurry of strategy changes under new CEO Asha Sharma.

The game was pitched as a mature, single-player, third-person action game set in the heart of Paris and built in collaboration with Marvel Games. The core pitch is that you play as Eric Brooks, the legendary Daywalker, in an original story that mixes Blade's vampire-hunting mythos with Arkane's signature immersive design.

Eric Brooks is portrayed as the Daywalker: half-human, half-vampire, and caught between the living world and the undead. The central theme is his struggle with identity: he has the powers needed to fight vampires, but his heritage also keeps him at a distance from human society. The story is set in Paris, where a quarantine zone has been overrun by vampires who prey on survivors and threaten to spread their influence across the city.

Arkane and Marvel say the game is not adapting a specific comic arc but telling an original narrative drawn from Blade's broader comic mythology and other media appearances. That gives the team room to define its own version of Paris, its own vampire power structure, and its own story beats without being locked to a preexisting film or comic plot. The game is therefore positioned as a fresh interpretation of Blade rather than a direct tie-in.

Microsoft already closed down Arkane Austin two years ago. This would be another unfortunate blow to the acclaimed studio that created the Dishonored franchise.
